TP-38 is an investigational immunotoxin designed for the treatment of brain tumors, particularly gliomas. It consists of a recombinant fusion protein that combines a targeting ligand (epidermal growth factor, EGF) with a modified Pseudomonas exotoxin A. The EGF component binds specifically to the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), which is overexpressed on many tumor cells, including glioblastoma multiforme. Upon binding to EGFR-expressing tumor cells, TP-38 is internalized and delivers the exotoxin into the cell, leading to inhibition of protein synthesis and subsequent cell death. This targeted approach aims to kill tumor cells while sparing normal tissue[1][2][4].
