Overview

TPMPA ((1,2,5,6-tetrahydropyridine-4-yl)methylphosphinic acid) is a synthetic small molecule that acts as a selective and competitive antagonist of GABA_A-rho receptors (previously known as GABA_C receptors). These receptors are primarily found in the retina but are also present in other tissues such as the hippocampus and spinal cord. TPMPA displays high selectivity for human recombinant ρ1 over ρ2 subtypes and has minimal effects on classical GABA_A or GABA_B receptors. It is used mainly as a pharmacological tool to investigate the function of GABA_A-rho receptors in neurophysiological research[1][2][3][4].
