Overview

TPP-MMONs refers to a specific type of mitochondria-targeted, mesoporous organosilica nanoparticles modified with triphenylphosphonium (TPP), used as a drug delivery platform in preclinical biomedical research. These nanoparticles are typically designed to deliver chemotherapeutic agents or other drugs directly to the mitochondria of cancer cells, enhancing efficacy and minimizing systemic toxicity. TPP acts as a mitochondrial targeting ligand due to its lipophilic cationic properties, enabling selective accumulation in mitochondria. MMONs (mesoporous organosilica nanoparticles) serve as the carrier matrix, customizable for various payloads and surface modifications. To date, TPP-MMONs are primarily reported in the scientific literature as experimental nanomedicines for targeted cancer therapy and are not recognized as an approved pharmaceutical drug or marketed product.
