Overview

TR-987 is a topical macrophage-activating gel developed by Tissue Repair Limited for the treatment of chronic wounds and aesthetic skin repair. Its active pharmaceutical ingredient, Glucoprime, is a proprietary microparticulate (1,3)(1,6)-beta-glucan derived from the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The drug functions by mimicking a biological threat to activate pattern recognition receptors (PRRs), specifically Dectin-1 and Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2), on wound macrophages. This activation triggers the NF-kB signaling pathway, stimulating the release of pro-healing cytokines, enhancing phagocytosis, and promoting angiogenesis and tissue remodeling. TR-987 is currently in Phase 3 clinical development for venous leg ulcers (VLUs) and has shown efficacy in Phase 2 trials for improving skin quality following ablative laser resurfacing.
