TR006 is an autologous, thymus-derived regulatory T cell (Treg) therapy being developed by Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) in collaboration with King's College London and University College London. The therapy involves the isolation and ex vivo expansion of CD4+ regulatory T cells from thymus tissue, which is routinely removed during pediatric congenital cardiac surgery. TR006 is designed to act as an immunomodulatory agent to promote immune tolerance and suppress allogeneic immune responses in pediatric heart transplant recipients. It is currently being evaluated in a Phase I clinical trial (the "Thymus" study) to assess safety and feasibility in preventing cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV), a major cause of long-term graft failure and mortality in children following heart transplantation. This program represents the first time a thymus-derived Treg therapy has been tested in a pediatric population in the UK.
