Overview

Tracheo-Spray (also referred to as TrachoSpray) is a drug-device combination product consisting of a 10% lidocaine solution delivered via a specialized inhalation spray device. It is designed to coat the tracheal mucosa before anesthesia induction to prevent postoperative sore throat (POST) and mitigate hemodynamic stress responses associated with tracheal intubation, particularly in patients undergoing elective thoracic surgery with double-lumen tubes. Lidocaine, the active pharmaceutical ingredient, is a small molecule local anesthetic that acts by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels (Nav) in nerve membranes, thereby inhibiting the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses. The product is currently being evaluated in clinical trials sponsored by the V.K.V. American Hospital in Istanbul to compare its efficacy against manual lidocaine application and saline placebo.
