Trachystemon orientalis (L.) D.Don is a perennial herb belonging to the Boraginaceae family, primarily found in the northern regions of Türkiye. It is widely consumed as food and utilized in traditional medicine for various ailments, including different types of cancer. Scientific studies have demonstrated that extracts and isolated compounds from T. orientalis exhibit significant antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cytoprotective properties. Furthermore, it has shown inhibitory effects on enzymes involved in lipid metabolism, such as pancreatic lipase and cholesterol esterase. Key active compounds identified include rosmarinic acid, β-sitosterol, danshensu, kaempferol 3-O-glucoside (astragalin), kaempferol 7-O-glucoside, globoidnan B, and rabdosiin.
