Overview
Trafermin is a recombinant human basic fibroblast growth factor (rhbFGF), also known as FGF2. It is a potent mitogenic agent that promotes the proliferation of various cells of mesodermal and neuroectodermal origin, including fibroblasts, vascular endothelial cells, and osteoblasts. By binding to and activating fibroblast growth factor receptors (FGFRs), trafermin stimulates angiogenesis and the formation of granulation tissue, which are critical for wound healing. Developed by Kaken Pharmaceutical, it is primarily used topically for the treatment of skin ulcers, such as pressure sores and diabetic foot ulcers. In dental applications, it is used to promote periodontal tissue regeneration in patients with periodontitis.
