Overview

Canadá (also referred to as the Canadá association) is an investigational fixed-dose combination (FDC) analgesic developed by the Brazilian pharmaceutical company EMS for the treatment of chronic pain. It combines tramadol, a centrally acting synthetic opioid that also inhibits the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine, with metamizole (dipyrone), a non-opioid analgesic and antipyretic known for its potent inhibitory effects on prostaglandin synthesis. The combination is designed to leverage the synergistic mechanisms of its components to provide enhanced pain relief with potentially lower doses of the opioid constituent. It is currently being evaluated in a Phase II, randomized, double-blind, triple-dummy clinical trial (NCT05125978) comparing its efficacy and safety against tramadol and metamizole as individual active comparators.
