Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Suntram-P is a fixed-dose combination pharmaceutical product developed and manufactured by Leostar Healthcare. It contains two active ingredients: tramadol hydrochloride, a centrally acting synthetic opioid analgesic, and paracetamol (acetaminophen), a non-opioid analgesic and antipyretic. The combination is indicated for the management of moderate to severe acute pain, where the dual mechanism of action provides enhanced efficacy compared to either component alone. Tramadol functions as a mu-opioid receptor agonist and also inhibits the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine, modulating descending pain pathways. Paracetamol's mechanism, while not fully elucidated, involves the inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system and potential interaction with serotonergic and endocannabinoid pathways. Suntram-P is typically administered orally in tablet form.
