This is a combination nasal therapy consisting of **tramazoline**, an alpha-2 adrenergic agonist, and **dexamethasone**, a synthetic glucocorticoid. Developed and investigated by the **University of Athens**, this formulation was studied for the treatment of **obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)**. The rationale behind the therapy is to reduce nasal resistance during sleep; tramazoline acts as a decongestant by constricting blood vessels in the nasal mucosa, while dexamethasone serves as an anti-inflammatory agent to reduce mucosal swelling. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover trial (NCT01601509), the combination was found to increase nasal breathing epochs and provide a modest 21% reduction in the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI). Despite these statistically significant changes in breathing patterns, the clinical benefit was deemed limited.
