trandolapril

Trandolapril is an oral angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor used primarily to treat hypertension and to improve survival in patients with heart failure or left ventricular dysfunction following a myocardial infarction. It is a non-sulfhydryl prodrug that is converted in the liver to its active metabolite, trandolaprilat, which inhibits ACE—the enzyme responsible for converting angiotensin I to the potent vasoconstrictor angiotensin II. By blocking this conversion, trandolapril reduces vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion, leading to decreased blood pressure and reduced cardiac workload. Trandolapril may also slow progression of renal disease in hypertensive patients with diabetes mellitus and microalbuminuria or overt nephropathy[1][2][3][5].
