Overview

Trandolapril + verapamil is a fixed-dose combination medication used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults. It combines two antihypertensive agents with complementary mechanisms of action: - **Trandolapril** is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor that blocks the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor. This leads to relaxation of blood vessels, reduced vascular resistance, and lower blood pressure. - **Verapamil** is a non-dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that inhibits the influx of calcium ions into cardiac and vascular smooth muscle cells via L-type calcium channels. This results in vasodilation, decreased myocardial contractility, slowed atrioventricular conduction, and further reduction in blood pressure. The combination provides greater antihypertensive efficacy than either agent alone and may offer additional cardiovascular protection for certain patients. The product was marketed under the brand name Tarka as extended-release oral tablets but generic versions remain available[1][2][3][4][5].
