Overview

Tranilast is an anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory small molecule drug that inhibits the degranulation of mast cells and basophils. This action blocks the release of allergic mediators such as histamine and serotonin. Tranilast also suppresses the synthesis of collagen in fibroblasts by inhibiting transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-β1), which contributes to its antifibrotic effects. It is primarily used for the prevention and treatment of bronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis, and other allergic diseases. Additionally, it has been investigated for its potential to treat keloids and hypertrophic scars due to its ability to inhibit abnormal collagen accumulation[1][2][3][4][5].
