Drug intelligence / Profile preview
TransAct LAT is an approved transdermal patch containing 40 mg of flurbiprofen, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Developed by Lead Chemical, it is indicated for the local symptomatic treatment of painful musculoskeletal conditions, including muscle pain and joint inflammation. Flurbiprofen functions as a small molecule inhibitor of prostaglandin synthetase enzymes (cyclooxygenase-1 and -2), which reduces the production of prostaglandins responsible for pain and inflammation. The transdermal delivery system allows the active ingredient to diffuse through the skin to deeper tissues, achieving therapeutic concentrations locally while maintaining significantly lower systemic plasma levels compared to oral administration (approximately 2% bioavailability), thereby reducing the risk of systemic adverse effects.
