Overview

TransCon RBZ is an investigational, sustained-release formulation of ranibizumab designed using Ascendis Pharma’s TransCon prodrug technology to enable extended intraocular delivery for retinal diseases such as neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration. It is part of Ascendis’ newly created ophthalmology effort and was disclosed as the first pipeline candidate in that franchise. Mechanistically, ranibizumab is a monoclonal antibody fragment that binds vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A), inhibiting VEGF-A signaling to reduce pathologic ocular neovascularization and vascular permeability. Public reports place TransCon RBZ in preclinical development for wet AMD under Ascendis Pharma’s ophthalmology unit.
