Drug intelligence / Profile preview
TransCon semaglutide is a long-acting, sustained-release prodrug of the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist semaglutide. Developed through a strategic collaboration between Ascendis Pharma and Novo Nordisk, the therapy utilizes Ascendis' proprietary TransCon (Transient Conjugation) technology. This platform involves a unique linker and carrier system that enables the controlled release of the active, unmodified semaglutide molecule into the systemic circulation. By optimizing the pharmacokinetic profile, TransCon semaglutide aims to provide a best-in-class treatment option for obesity and other metabolic diseases, potentially offering improved dosing convenience and therapeutic outcomes. The program is currently in the pre-clinical stage, with clinical trials projected to begin in 2026.
