Overview

This topical anesthetic formulation, developed by the Hexsel Dermatology Clinic, is a combination product containing lidocaine (23%), tetracaine (7%), Transcutol P (20%), and a dye. It functions as a cutaneous marker and local anesthetic, primarily indicated for the reduction of pain during dermatological procedures. Lidocaine and tetracaine are local anesthetics that work by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels, thereby inhibiting the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses. Transcutol P (diethylene glycol monoethyl ether) acts as a potent skin penetration enhancer, facilitating the delivery of the anesthetic agents into the dermis. The inclusion of a dye allows clinicians to visually confirm the exact area of application and monitor the onset of action.
