TRANSDUR-Sufentanil

TRANSDUR-Sufentanil is a transdermal patch formulation of the potent opioid analgesic sufentanil, developed by Durect Corporation using its proprietary TRANSDUR technology. Designed for the management of moderate to severe chronic non-malignant pain in opioid-experienced patients, the system is intended to provide continuous delivery of the active ingredient for up to seven days from a single application. This extended wear time represents a significant improvement over standard opioid patches that typically last two to three days. Sufentanil acts as a highly selective mu-opioid receptor agonist, providing potent analgesia. The product successfully reached an end-of-Phase II meeting with the FDA under a development agreement with Endo Pharmaceuticals, though rights were later returned to Durect.
