The transferrin receptor-directed bispecific refers to a preclinical-stage antibody platform developed by Abzyme Therapeutics designed to facilitate the delivery of therapeutic biologics across the blood-brain barrier (BBB). This bispecific antibody format utilizes one binding arm to engage the transferrin receptor (TfR) on brain endothelial cells, triggering receptor-mediated transcytosis to transport the molecule into the central nervous system (CNS). The second binding arm is engineered to target a therapeutic antigen relevant to neurological conditions, such as C1q for complement inhibition or TrkB for neurotrophic signaling.
