Overview

Transthyretin (TTR) is a protein found in blood and cerebrospinal fluid, primarily known for its role as a transporter of thyroxine and retinol. Research indicates that central transthyretin exerts an anorectic action, leading to a decrease in food intake and body weight. This effect is mediated by a reduction in neuropeptide Y (NPY) levels within the dorsomedial hypothalamus (DMH) and paraventricular nucleus. These findings suggest that transthyretin could represent a novel therapeutic target for addressing obesity and its associated comorbidities.
