Transversus Abdominis Plane Block (TAPB) is a regional anesthesia technique used to provide analgesia to the anterolateral abdominal wall. In the clinical study conducted by Medipol University, TAPB is performed under ultrasound guidance by injecting a local anesthetic, specifically bupivacaine, into the neurovascular plane between the internal oblique and transversus abdominis muscles. This procedure is primarily indicated for managing postoperative pain following abdominal surgeries, such as laparoscopic cholecystectomy. By blocking the sensory nerves of the anterior abdominal wall (T6 to L1), TAPB aims to improve patient recovery scores and reduce the requirement for systemic rescue opioids and their associated side effects.
