The transversus thoracic muscle plane block (TTMPB) is a regional anesthesia technique being investigated by Eric Albrecht for its efficacy in managing postoperative pain following elective open-heart surgery. The procedure involves the ultrasound-guided bilateral injection of bupivacaine (0.375%) into the fascial plane between the internal intercostal muscle and the transversus thoracic muscle, typically at the level of the 4th thoracic vertebra. This block targets the anterior cutaneous branches of the intercostal nerves (T2-T6), providing analgesia to the sternum and anterior chest wall. The intervention is evaluated as an adjunct to standard multimodal analgesia protocols to reduce opioid consumption and facilitate early recovery.
