Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Trantinterol hydrochloride (also known as SPFF) is a novel, orally active, ultra-long-acting beta-2 adrenergic receptor (ADRB2) agonist. Developed by Shenyang Pharmaceutical University and Shenyang Dashan Pharmaceutical, it is designed for the treatment of respiratory diseases, primarily asthma. Trantinterol hydrochloride acts as a potent bronchodilator by selectively binding to and activating beta-2 adrenergic receptors on airway smooth muscle cells, leading to muscle relaxation and improved airflow. In addition to its primary bronchodilatory mechanism, trantinterol has been shown to act as a noncompetitive inhibitor of P-glycoprotein (P-gp/ABCB1). It is currently in Phase III clinical development in China for the treatment of asthma.
