Overview

Trapidil is a small molecule vasodilator and antiplatelet drug primarily used in the treatment of chronic stable angina and coronary heart disease. It acts as an antagonist of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), inhibits cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) phosphodiesterase enzymes, and suppresses platelet aggregation. The increase in cAMP potentiates inhibition of platelets by adenosine, reduces thromboxane A2 generation, and leads to vasodilation. Trapidil also exhibits antiproliferative effects by reducing mitogenesis due to PDGF binding to its receptor, which may help prevent restenosis after angioplasty[1][2][3][5][6].
