Overview

A combination therapy consisting of trastuzumab (Herceptin), a HER2-targeted monoclonal antibody, and a taxane chemotherapy agent (either paclitaxel/Taxol or docetaxel/Taxotere). This regimen is primarily used for treating HER2-positive breast cancer. Trastuzumab works by binding to HER2 receptors on cancer cells, blocking signals that cause cell proliferation, while taxanes damage the cellular structure that supports cancer cell division. The combination shows synergistic effects, with docetaxel demonstrating direct NK Group 2 member D receptor upregulation that enhances trastuzumab's antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity.
