Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Trastuzumab biosimilar (Japan Biotechno Pharma) is a monoclonal antibody biosimilar of the reference biologic trastuzumab, currently in development by Japan Biotechno Pharma for the treatment of HER2-positive cancers. Like the reference product, it targets the Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2 (HER2), a transmembrane protein overexpressed in certain breast and gastric cancers. The mechanism of action involves binding to the extracellular domain of HER2, which inhibits ligand-independent HER2 signaling, prevents the proteolytic cleavage of the HER2 extracellular domain, and triggers antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) against tumor cells. Japan Biotechno Pharma includes this candidate in its portfolio focused on manufacturing technology development and sales.
