Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Traumeel + Zeel is a combination homeopathic drug product developed by Biologische Heilmittel Heel GmbH and distributed by MediNatura in the United States. The product consists of two separate homeopathic injection solutions, Traumeel (Tr14) and Zeel (Ze14), which are typically co-administered in a 1:1 ratio via intra-articular injection. Traumeel is composed of 14 natural ingredients, including 12 botanical components such as *Arnica montana*, while Zeel contains sulfur and extracts from four medicinal plants (*Arnica montana*, *Sanguinaria canadensis*, *Rhus toxicodendron*, and *Solanum dulcamara*). The combination is indicated for the treatment of inflammatory and degenerative musculoskeletal conditions, particularly moderate-to-severe knee osteoarthritis and rheumatic joint diseases. While the exact biological mechanism is not fully understood, in vitro studies suggest that the combination may modulate inflammation by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), and 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) pathways, thereby affecting the production of eicosanoids and leukotrienes. Clinical trials, such as the MOZArT study, have demonstrated that the combination offers efficacy comparable to hyaluronic acid and corticosteroids with a favorable safety profile.
