Travelan

Travelan is a hyperimmune bovine colostrum (HBC) product developed by Immuron Ltd. for the prevention of traveler's diarrhea. The active ingredient, IMM-124E, is a polyclonal antibody preparation harvested from the colostrum of dairy cows that have been immunized with a vaccine containing multiple strains of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC). When taken orally, these antibodies provide passive immunity by binding to bacterial surface antigens and toxins within the gastrointestinal tract, thereby neutralizing the pathogens and preventing their attachment to the intestinal mucosa. Although primarily designed to target ETEC, the antibodies in Travelan have demonstrated cross-reactivity against other major enteric pathogens, including Shigella, Salmonella, and Campylobacter species. The product is commercially available as a dietary supplement in tablet form in the United States, Australia, and Canada.
