Travesol

Travesol is a 10% amino acid solution primarily utilized as a component of parenteral nutrition to provide a source of nitrogen and essential amino acids for patients who cannot receive adequate oral or enteral intake. In the context of clinical research, specifically at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, it is being evaluated for its potential to prevent acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients undergoing elective cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass. The proposed mechanism for this protective effect involves the induction of renal vasodilation and an increase in the glomerular filtration rate (GFR), which enhances the kidney's resilience to ischemic stress during surgery. It is administered via intravenous infusion.
