Overview

Traxivitug (formerly known as MAU868) is a fully human monoclonal IgG1 antibody that specifically targets the major capsid protein VP1 of the BK polyomavirus (BKV). By binding to VP1, it neutralizes BKV and prevents viral entry into host cells. Traxivitug is being developed primarily for the treatment of BK viremia in immunocompromised patients such as kidney transplant recipients. The drug has demonstrated potent in vitro neutralizing activity against all four major BKV subtypes and has shown significant antiviral effects in clinical trials. There are currently no approved therapies for BKV infection or associated nephropathy; thus, traxivitug represents a first-in-class therapeutic approach[1][2][6][8][9].
