Overview

TRC4186 is a novel small-molecule Advanced Glycation End-product (AGE) breaker developed by Torrent Pharmaceuticals. It is designed to target and cleave established AGE crosslinks that accumulate in tissues under chronic hyperglycemic conditions. These crosslinks contribute to endothelial dysfunction and structural abnormalities in the vasculature and myocardium, leading to increased stiffness and impaired cardiac function. By breaking these crosslinks, TRC4186 aims to reduce the AGE burden and reverse diabetic macro- and microvascular complications. Clinically, it has been evaluated in Phase II trials as an add-on therapy for patients with stable chronic heart failure and coexisting type 2 diabetes or elevated HbA1c, where it demonstrated potential to improve functional status and cardiac diastolic function.
