Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Trehalose dioctanoate (Tr8) is a synthesized trehalose fatty acyl amphiphile, created by esterifying the two primary hydroxyls of trehalose with fatty acids. It functions as a super gelator, forming stable oleogels at low concentrations (minimum gelation concentration ≤ 0.2 wt%). These oleogels exhibit hexagonal columnar molecular packing and fibrillar networks. Tr8 is explored for its potential as an oil structuring agent in wax-free cosmetic formulations, such as lip balms, offering an alternative to traditional beeswax and plant wax products.
