Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Treprostinil palmitil is a hexadecyl ester prodrug of treprostinil, designed as an inhaled dry powder formulation for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and pulmonary hypertension associated with interstitial lung disease (PH-ILD)[2][5]. It is hydrolyzed in the lungs by endogenous esterases to release active treprostinil, a prostacyclin analog that acts as a vasodilator and inhibits platelet aggregation[2][3]. Treprostinil palmitil aims to provide sustained pulmonary delivery and prolonged therapeutic effect compared to other formulations. The drug is currently investigational and has not been approved for any indication[1][5]. Insmed is developing this formulation.
