TREXAVIVE

TREXAVIVE is a subcutaneous formulation of the repurposed small molecule buprenorphine, developed by Trexapharm for the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD). The drug functions as a multi-receptor modulator, acting as a partial agonist at the mu-opioid receptor and an antagonist at the kappa- and delta-opioid receptors, while also reportedly modulating the GABAergic system. This pharmacological profile is intended to address the neurobiological underpinnings of depression by regulating reward pathways and stress responses. Although TREXAVIVE has not yet commenced formal Phase 1, 2, or 3 clinical trials, it is currently accessible to patients in Australia through the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) Special Access Scheme (SAS).
