tRF-ASO-Exo-PAE is an experimental therapeutic formulation consisting of a poly(β-amino ester) (PAE) hydrogel loaded with exosomes that carry tRNA-derived fragments (tRFs) and antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs). Developed by the Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University, this combination therapy is designed to treat diabetic ocular surface diseases (DOSD). The PAE hydrogel serves as a biocompatible delivery vehicle for sustained release, while the exosomes facilitate the intracellular delivery of the tRFs and ASOs. The mechanism of action involves the modulation of gene expression or signaling pathways that are dysregulated in diabetic ocular conditions, aiming to alleviate symptoms and promote ocular surface healing.
