Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tri-Regol is a three-phase combined oral contraceptive (COC) developed and manufactured by Gedeon Richter. It consists of a fixed-dose combination of the synthetic progestin levonorgestrel and the synthetic estrogen ethinylestradiol. The tablets are administered in a triphasic regimen designed to mimic the hormonal fluctuations of a natural menstrual cycle. Tri-Regol exerts its contraceptive effect primarily by suppressing ovulation through negative feedback on the hypothalamus and pituitary gland, which inhibits the release of gonadotropins (luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone). Additionally, it increases the viscosity of cervical mucus to impede sperm penetration and alters the endometrium to reduce the likelihood of implantation. Tri-Regol is approved and widely marketed for oral contraception.
