Overview

This investigational combination therapy consists of triamcinolone (a corticosteroid), hyaluronic acid (a viscosupplement), and dextrose (a hypertonic sugar solution), administered via ultrasound-guided intra-articular injection. Developed by researchers at Taipei Medical University, the regimen is designed to treat knee osteoarthritis by simultaneously addressing joint inflammation, restoring synovial fluid viscosity, and stimulating connective tissue repair through prolotherapy. Triamcinolone acts as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist to reduce inflammation, hyaluronic acid provides mechanical lubrication and shock absorption, and dextrose acts as an irritant to trigger a localized healing response in the joint's connective tissues.
