Overview

triamcinolone + levobupivacaine is a combination drug therapy consisting of a synthetic corticosteroid and a long-acting local anesthetic. It is being evaluated in clinical trials by the Hospital de Braga for the treatment of quadratus lumborum syndrome, a condition associated with chronic low back pain and myofascial trigger points. Triamcinolone acts as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist, providing potent anti-inflammatory effects that help reduce muscle irritation and pain. Levobupivacaine, the S-enantiomer of bupivacaine, is a voltage-gated sodium channel blocker that provides regional anesthesia by inhibiting nerve impulse conduction. The combination is typically administered via ultrasound-guided infiltration into the quadratus lumborum muscle to achieve both immediate analgesic and sustained anti-inflammatory benefits.
