Overview

**Triamcinolone acetonide** is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid, specifically the C16α,17α acetonide derivative of triamcinolone. It acts as an agonist of the glucocorticoid receptor and is approximately five times as potent as cortisol, with minimal mineralocorticoid activity. Its primary mechanism is anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive action through inhibition of multiple inflammatory cytokines and mediators. Clinically, it is used to treat a wide range of conditions including allergic rhinitis (nasal spray), various skin disorders (topical), macular edema associated with uveitis (ophthalmic injection), arthritis (intra-articular injection), and other inflammatory or autoimmune diseases. It was first approved in 1957 and remains widely used in multiple formulations for both systemic and local administration[2][3][4][5].
