Overview

A combination injection therapy comprising the synthetic corticosteroid triamcinolone acetonide and the local anesthetic bupivacaine hydrochloride. This formulation is used for trigger point injections into the levator ani muscles to treat pelvic floor myalgia and dyspareunia. Triamcinolone provides anti-inflammatory effects by activating glucocorticoid receptors, while bupivacaine acts as a long-acting local anesthetic by inhibiting voltage-gated sodium channels, thereby blocking nerve conduction and relieving muscle spasms. The therapy was evaluated by the University of Cincinnati in a Phase 4 clinical trial comparing its efficacy against pelvic floor physical therapy.
