The **triamcinolone acetonide-eluting polymer implant** is an investigational drug-device combination developed by the **University of Sao Paulo** for the treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS), specifically targeting eosinophilic and central compartment subtypes. The implant is constructed from a biodegradable terpolymer matrix of **L-lactide and trimethylene carbonate (TMC)**, which is embedded with **triamcinolone acetonide**, a potent corticosteroid. Designed for endonasal placement in the ethmoid sinus following endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS), the device provides sustained local release of the anti-inflammatory agent directly to the nasal mucosa. This localized delivery mechanism is intended to maintain sinus patency, reduce mucosal inflammation, and prevent the recurrence of nasal polyps while minimizing the systemic side effects associated with oral corticosteroids. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials for patients whose disease remains uncontrolled after surgical intervention.
