Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ZILRETTA is an extended-release formulation of the synthetic corticosteroid triamcinolone acetonide, designed as a microsphere-based injectable suspension for intra-articular use. It is indicated for the management of osteoarthritis pain of the knee. The drug utilizes poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) microspheres to provide sustained release of triamcinolone acetonide directly into synovial tissues, aiming to deliver prolonged pain relief compared to immediate-release corticosteroid injections. After administration, the microspheres gradually degrade into carbon dioxide and water. ZILRETTA is not intended for repeat administration and should not be used in small joints or by routes other than intra-articular injection in the knee[1][3][4].
