Overview

TriCalm is a topical hydrogel formulation containing strontium nitrate as its active ingredient, specifically developed to alleviate pruritus (itching), burning, and stinging. Unlike traditional anti-itch treatments that utilize steroids or antihistamines, TriCalm employs strontium ions to selectively inhibit the firing of type C nociceptors, which are the sensory nerve fibers responsible for transmitting itch and pain signals from the skin to the central nervous system. This non-steroidal approach provides rapid relief for various dermatological conditions. TriCalm is currently being evaluated in clinical trials, notably by the University of California, San Diego, for the management of immunotherapy-related pruritus in patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs).
