Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Trichlormethiazide is a thiazide diuretic that inhibits sodium and chloride reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubules of the kidneys. It promotes water loss from the body and is used to treat edema associated with various conditions (heart failure, hepatic cirrhosis, renal dysfunction) and hypertension. Its antihypertensive mechanism may involve vasodilation through activation of calcium-activated potassium channels and inhibition of carbonic anhydrases in vascular tissue.
