Overview

Tricholoma matsutake extract is a natural product derived from the fruiting body or mycelium of the Tricholoma matsutake mushroom, also known as the pine mushroom. The extract contains bioactive compounds such as polysaccharides (notably β-glucan), triterpenoids, and phenolic compounds. It has demonstrated antioxidant, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and antitumor properties in preclinical studies. Mechanistically, it inhibits elastase activity and matrix metalloproteinases (MMP-1 and MMP-3), increases tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases (TIMP-1) expression in skin fibroblasts[1], induces apoptosis via caspase-dependent mitochondrial pathways in cancer cells[2][8], and acts as a tyrosinase inhibitor for skin whitening[6]. Traditionally used in East Asian medicine to support immune function and digestion[4], it is now commonly found in anti-aging skincare products for its ability to improve complexion and reduce wrinkles[3][6].
