Trichostatin A + icaritin microparticles is an experimental combination formulation consisting of the histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor trichostatin A and the prenylflavonoid icaritin, encapsulated within a microparticle delivery system. Trichostatin A is a potent, reversible inhibitor of mammalian histone deacetylases (Classes I and II), which leads to hyperacetylation of histones and modulates gene expression related to cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. Icaritin, a derivative of Epimedium, exhibits multi-targeted anti-tumor activity, including the inhibition of the STAT3 signaling pathway and modulation of the tumor microenvironment. The microparticle formulation is designed to provide sustained release and improve the bioavailability of these hydrophobic compounds. While the combination of HDAC inhibitors and icaritin has been explored for synergistic anti-cancer effects in research settings, this specific microparticle formulation is not a widely recognized clinical candidate and may be confused with similar formulations involving Tanshinone IIA.
