Overview
Tricilest is a triphasic oral contraceptive pill developed by Janssen-Cilag, specifically marketed in Thailand. It consists of a combination of the synthetic estrogen ethinyl estradiol and the progestin norgestimate. As a hormonal combination therapy, it is indicated for the prevention of pregnancy and the treatment of mild to moderate acne vulgaris in women who also require contraception. The mechanism of action involves the suppression of gonadotropins (FSH and LH), which inhibits ovulation, and the modulation of androgen levels. By increasing sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) and decreasing free testosterone, Tricilest reduces sebum production, a key factor in the pathogenesis of acne.
