Overview

Tridecanoic acid is a saturated fatty acid with 13 carbon atoms (C13:0). It is a naturally occurring compound found in various biological sources, including the roots of *Cordia insignis*, *Aloe vera* gel and extract, and as a metabolite produced by endophytic *Bacillus* species and marine *Streptomyces albus*. It is also a component of *Hydnocarpus wightiana* oil and epicuticular waxes of plants. Research indicates its biological activities, including anti-oomycete activity against *Pythium insidiosum*, as well as antibacterial and antifungal properties. Furthermore, tridecanoic acid has been identified as a metabolite involved in various physiological and pathological processes, such as correlating with inflammatory responses in stroke, serving as a predictor for type 2 diabetes mellitus, and being a differential metabolite in conditions like acne with insulin resistance, ulcerative colitis, and subclinical hyperketonemia. It is also recognized as a bioactive compound from marine cyanobacteria with potential applications in Alzheimer's disease and a core component of Sijunzi Decoction, which is being investigated for Parkinson's disease.
