Trifluoro-thiamin phosphate is a synthetic thiamine (vitamin B1) analog in which the methyl group at the 2-position of the pyrimidine ring is replaced by a trifluoromethyl group. It belongs to the class of thiamine phosphates and has been studied primarily as an experimental compound. Trifluoro-thiamin phosphate acts as an inhibitor or poor substrate for thiamin phosphate synthase, an enzyme involved in thiamine biosynthesis. This property makes it useful for probing enzyme mechanisms and as a potential lead compound for antimicrobial drug development targeting bacterial thiamine biosynthesis pathways, such as those in Mycobacterium tuberculosis[1][2][9]. The compound is not approved for clinical use and remains at the experimental stage.
